Having a brilliant idea, and then establishing a business, finding partners who can add value, then finding finance, either from friends, family and, of course, from venture capitalists is a daunting prospect. Having cleared that hurdle, there are the start-up expenses, the production, marketing, inventory control, research and development, cost control, staff management, debt collection, import and export licensing, import and export duties, duty refunds and drawbacks, social security payments, wage and salary payments, advertising and sales promotion. Trade fairs? Should we participate or are there better ways to get customers?
Then there are the inevitable disputes between partners. Who is the leader? How will profit be divided, who gets the best office? Who will drive the best car? These and a thousand other problems can and do lead to the failure of an entrepreneurial company. If you have to learn on the job, as you go, chances that you will make fatal mistakes and lose all your money and probably most of your friends are very real.
These expensive, fatal mistakes, can be avoided when you take part in the Jiao Tong University Entrepreneurial management game. The conditions and decisions you have to make are as real as possible. The game has been scientifically designed and is based on real life situations where small mistakes had catastrophic results and often ended up in the bankruptcy of the company.
