Games are staged from time to time, not only for entertainment but also to engender an element of competition; all games have an English speaking element in them and are highly educational. Besides, a student who is not yet convinced of the need to be a good English speaker if he/she wants to be succesful in the world, will soon be convinced of how useful and how much fun it is to be able to exchange ideas with people form far away lands. An English language Salon is a sophisticated, moderated, English Corner™ where English language students can practice their spoken English and their listening skills with their peers, as well as with native speakers from Great Britain, Canada, the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and other countries where English is the main spoken language. An English language Salon is held in, well appointed, adequately illuminated rooms and that are comfortable in winter as well as in summer,
And, as a not insignificant bonus, students also learn vital life skills like inventiveness, common sense and resourcefulness.
The Songjiang English Language Salon differs from the common English corner in that it is structured and well managed.. Students have the opportunity to check the topic for the next week's English language salon, often at their regular school, with their regular English teacher and carry out some research so that the student can speak on the topic with some authority.
Small prizes aroccasionally awarded fto students who excelled in their oral English and/or research done on the topic and their presentation at the English Salon..
The website also features interesting short articles in English about topics of general interest for students.

The topic for the next English speaking Salon is publized on the website. This gives students a chance to do some reseach and prepare themselves. Some English teachers discuss the next English speaking Salon with their students and guide them into excellence.
Prizes are occasionally given to outstanding contributors.
The Songjiang English language Salon has been organised by Prof. Luo Jiang Qiang,from Shanghai Jiao Tong University ICEC 
Prof. Luo is a columnist and a frequent contributor to the "Shanghai Daily" newspaper, the China Daily" and other National and International newspapers.
He came to China for the first time in 1982. He has lived in Beijing, Shanghai Pudong and, since 2007, in Songjiang.
He was nominated for the Shanghai Magnolia Award in 2007.
He has had a long and distinguished career in education in China, among others, at::

He has been the organiser and Host of the opening performances at the Pudong Education Department English culture weeks for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2010
Prof. Luo Jiang Qiang has a cheerful disposition and has a keen sense of humour; he is continuing his studies in Chinese history, culture and archaeology.
His many interests include: Collecting Chinese antiques. Classic Art, Oil paintings and Sculptures, Collecting Vintage cars from 1912 onwards, Antique musical boxes from 1830 as well as Antique Cameras (1890) and Antique phonographs from as early as 1898.
He has a large collection of Chinese Hong Bao Shu and Chairman Mao Ze Dong medals and books and newspapers about the new China from 1949,
His pet hobbies are: Photography and Classical music. His sports activities include Swimming, Tennis, Horse riding and Cycling.
